
Antonio Padoa-Schioppa is a jurist and historian of Italian law. He was a full professor of History of Medieval and Modern Law at the University of Milan, where he taught until 2007 and served as Dean of the Faculty of Law from 1983 to 1999.
In his research he analyzed the history of commercial law, canon law and civil and criminal justice in the Middle Ages and Modern Age, reconstructing the history of European law in a long-term perspective. He is also attentive to the constitutional profiles of the European Union.
He was president of the Centro Studi sul Federalismo in Turin from 2004 to 2010 and he has been part of the Scientific Committee of the CSF Foundation since 2019
